Will your mattress work with your bed frame or foundation?
By The LQ Furniture floor team ·

A mattress and bed frame sharing a size name does not establish that they work together. Support design, condition, dimensions and manufacturer requirements all matter. Before buying, identify the mattress you are considering and the frame or foundation you intend to keep. Then compare the written requirements for those exact models.
Identify what is supporting the mattress
Take clear photographs of the frame, support surface, center supports and any label or model number. Note whether the setup uses slats, a solid platform, a separate foundation or an adjustable base. Measure the internal space and overall height. A salesperson can discuss those details more usefully than the description of a standard queen bed.
Check for damage or missing parts and tell the store about them. Do not assume a new mattress will correct an unstable or unsuitable support system. Ask what needs to be verified by the manufacturer or installer before purchase, especially if you cannot identify the existing frame.
Use the model’s support requirements
Ask for the manufacturer’s specifications for the proposed mattress, including any requirements for the support surface, center support, weight capacity and ventilation. If slats are permitted, confirm their required dimensions and spacing for that model. This article does not supply one universal spacing number because manufacturers and designs differ.
For example, Tempur-Pedic publishes support guidance for its mattresses. That is an example of the documentation to request, not a claim that LQ currently carries a particular brand or that those specifications apply to a different mattress.
Treat adjustable compatibility as a separate question
If you have or want an adjustable base, confirm that both the mattress and base manufacturers permit the combination. Ask about the base’s dimensions, retainer system, operating clearances and power connection. A mattress being flexible when lifted does not prove that it is suitable for repeated adjustable-base movement.
Check whether the base fits within an existing decorative bed and whether anything interferes when it moves. Ask who will assemble and demonstrate the setup. Confirm which accessories, controls or other components are included with the specific item rather than relying on a showroom photo.
Understand the complete purchase
Request the written warranty and any applicable return or exchange terms before committing. Ask how support requirements affect those terms and retain the documentation. Confirm whether the quoted price includes only the mattress or also a foundation or base, plus any separate transport or setup charges.
Bring your measurements, frame photos and model information when you visit LQ Furniture. Review the mattress selection guide for broader shopping questions, and contact the store to confirm current options. The floor photographs are a starting point, not a live inventory guarantee.
